Yes, I was a groupie "back in the day." Thus my love for rock star romances. Just a little more about my journey and why I write what I write.
I'm not sure why I started my blog with this post. I guess because it is a fun fact. I was a huge fan of rock music. At ten, I bought my first rock album, KISS Alive (Well, at ten, my mom bought it). Anyone remember that one? I was rockin' and rollin' all night in my bedroom, dancing around my old school turntable, totally in love with Paul Stanley.
I played that album and stared at Paul and that star around his eye daily. KISS led me to other bands and more music: Aerosmith, Frampton, Bad Company, Bowie...the list grew. The summer I was thirteen, me and my best bud, Robin, went to our first concert. We camped out all day (festival seating back then) and dashed down a stadium worth of stairs for our seats.
From the third row, I watched in awe as Bon Scott led AC/DC through their headbanging set, and then as Steven Tyler (another mega crush) and Aerosmith took the stage. Picture dancing, screaming teenagers, lighters up (no cell phones) the pungent but sweet scent of weed wafting through the crowd while security pretty much ignored us. Those were the days.
Standing on my chair, vibrating with excitement, I realized I wanted to not just jam to these rock stars; I wanted to meet them.
I easily picked out "those girls" in the crowd, flaunting their backstage passes. Right then and there I swore that someday that would be me strutting around, proudly showing off my own pass.
Just a year later, 1979, at fourteen, I was indeed wearing my first backstage pass at The Cars concert.
But that's a tale for another time.
In other news, and this has nothing to do with my groupie adventures, my latest book, Falling into OZ is live. Make sure to grab your copy while its just $.99. Happy reading! And take a minute to listen to some good old rock n' roll while you're at it.
